Denise Saunders Thompson, the affiliate dean of administration at Howard College’s Chadwick A. Boseman Faculty of Effective Arts, was offered with the 2021 United States Authorities’s Nationwide Medal of Arts award by President Biden.
Thompson acquired the award Tuesday on behalf of the Worldwide Affiliation of Blacks in Dance throughout a ceremony on the White Home, which had been postponed as a result of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Nationwide Medal of the Arts is the best award given to artists, arts patrons and teams.
“Receiving this Nationwide Medal of Arts award is a major milestone within the historical past of this group,” Thompson stated. “It acknowledges the work, years of dedication by so many and infinite contributions of Black individuals in dance. This award from President Biden and the Nationwide Endowment for the Arts is so extremely gratifying. It provides me extra encouragement, hope and drive to proceed the journey of shifting ahead. I’m so honored.”
Thompson serves because the president and CEO of IABD, a corporation created to protect and promote dance by individuals of African origin in live performance with selling the pursuits of artists by advocacy, viewers growth, training, funding, networking, efficiency, philosophical dialogue and touring.
